Very happy with purchase. No regrets.
Love this product. My knives are so sharp!Excellent review
The Mt Diablo Wet Stone Sharpening Kit, despite its quirks, has earned a place on my kitchen counter. The top-notch stones quickly transformed my slightly damaged knives into sharp ones, resulting in impressive results that made daily slicing and dicing effortless. However, the setup could be improved. Only one of the rubber holders would fit down into the bamboo mat, and the mat itself isn’t very slip-proof if your surface is wet at all. The included plastic blade guide snapped early, leaving me to rely on my instincts. Guiding the blade by feel proved simpler than expected.Despite these flaws, the kit remains valuable. The edge you can achieve with these stones is satisfying. For those willing to adapt and invest in a sharp tool, this set is worthwhile.
I am not a culinary professional, but I’ve come to love sharp knives in the kitchen. I’ve bought various sharpening tools, like the electric and ceramic ones that I never am able to get the hang of, so when I saw the video for this kit, it inspired me to get it and start learning how to maintain good knives. I didn’t realize you’re supposed to WET a whetstone! Duh duh duh DUMB! And I’ve watched the YouTube videos now on what a flattening stone (which also comes with this kit) is used for…to keep the whetstones from “dishing out” over time! I have to say, I’m really tickled with this sharpening kit. The little angling thingie that ensures the proper angle when honing a knife is a fantastic addition for somebody learning how to hone kitchen knives. I also like the fact that, when I get where using these whetstones is like riding a bicycle, I can use them to sharpen other things, too, like some of my garden tools. Can I say I love this set? I love this set!
If you want some really sharp knives in the kitchen this product will certainly get you there but you're going to need some instructions and a lot of practice before you produce some razor sharp knives. I use these wet stones in my workshop to sharpen flat blades like chisels and planer blades. And with just a little practice and knowledge I got some really good results.I have always been interested in sharpening my tools. And that includes my kitchen knives. However sharpening chisels is very different than sharpening a kitchen knife. The video that is included in this product should be completely ignored as the methods and techniques demonstrated are complete fantasy and by no means demonstrate how to sharpen a knife. -1 starWet stones have advantages and disadvantages. For example whetstones only require water where traditional oil stones required, well, oil. And lots of it. However oil stones will last longer than Waterstones. This kit includes a type of honing block or flattening block designed to keep your wet stones flat and true. For once they develop a dip they're no longer useful. If you're a beginner the 400 grit and the 1000 is all you really need to produce a very sharp edge. As you gain experience and knowledge you can use the finer grits and produce some very scary edges.I have to say I applaud you for getting this far and considering sharpening your tools rather than replacing them. This is a fine kit and you will be very impressed with the results. I have been sharpening tools drill bits knives for many years. It gives me great pleasure and satisfaction when I bring a dull tool back to life making it even better than it was before.Cheers
